On January 8, 2009, Amanda Joy Vignere went to Heaven after she struck a tree while skiing on a trip with her singing ensemble.

Amanda was not one of the best young ladies in our youth group - she was the best! Her smile was captivating, and her spirit made everyone feel special.

May her death make an impact on your life.

The song that is played when this website is first opened is called "About the Cross." Amanda was learning this song as part of a trio with two of her classmates, Steven Goodall and Jamie Crockett. She never got to sing the song with Steven or Jamie, but she lived a life that was all "About the Cross." Now she is singing in a heavenly ensemble with her beautiful alto voice.

  TEN TIMES BETTER

In the book of Daniel, he and three friends are described by the king as

being "ten times better." This is the desire we have for the teenagers of

the First Baptist Church Youth Department.

Our pastor, Dr. Jack Schaap, believes that the hope and future of this

world lies in the hearts and souls of today's teenagers. Being a teenager,

though, does not demand rebellion and confusion. Apostle Paul said in

I Timothy 4:12,  "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of

the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in

  purity."

The teenagers of the First Baptist Church can and should be examples

to those in the community around them. Through Sunday School

lessons, preaching, teaching, and activities, they are reminded time and

time again that God deserves and expects our best.

The Youth Department of the First Baptist Church reaches a wide array

of young people. From the children of regular church members to inner-

city bus teens and from public school teens to Spanish-speaking

teenagers, we have a program for them all.

Our Senior Pastor, Dr. Jack Schaap, traveled the country for over

twenty years speaking primarily at youth revivals, camps, and

conferences. Dr. Schaap and the First Baptist Church host the annual

International Youth Conference each July. In 2006, 10, 119 teens and

  workers were in attendance.

The Youth Staff of Dr. Eddie Lapina, Brother Brian Hasse, Brother Todd

Weber, Brother Ricky Torres, and Brother Alberto Velazquez assume

the daily tasks of the youth program.
